Who knew Parisians were so amusing (and bored)? It started with a single “space invader,” whatever the hell that is, made out of post-it notes and tacked on a Ubisoft window–by a female Ubisoft-er, no less. The BNP Paribas building across from Ubisoft got into it. Video-game character Post-It Note War ensued.
1. I shouldn’t admit this, but I don’t really know who Gloria Steinem is except that she’s a famous feminist and I should know why. 2. I looked it up: she’s 77. Damn, she looks good! 3. She makes an excellent, excellent point: the new challenge is not to prove that women can do what [...]

Real men crochet
Upending gender stereotypes in any way is a wonderful thing, doing so by being a man who crochets traditionally masculine things– like cigars, guns, and urinals– is just too delectable for words. The gentleman in question is an artist by the name of Nathan Vincent. There is a lengthy interview up with him by Bradford [...]
There is so much talk of Gen Y as the worst and whiniest generation of them all. Apparently, we don’t want to work, but we do want praise. In our defense, check out this musical about work Astri wrote at age 8!
When writing about work and life as a twenty-something just grappling with both concepts, it can be wonderfully informative, inspiring, and anxiety-diffusing to read how successful professionals were once in the same unstable boat. And so, a friend and I have started a new blog that interviews prominent artists about about the years before: before [...]
In the Unites States there seems to be an inherent fear of showing that one is away from the call of duty for “frivolous” reasons. People might judge! Perhaps it will seem as though you don’t take your work seriously enough! Work, therefore I am, is the American mantra. In Europe, vacation and other forms of leave are seen as more natural parts of the work equation.
It’s Monday evening and time for some videos. Quite a few good ones have been passed along to me recently, and I thought I would share them. First up, this scary piece of moving image showing Sarah Palin supporters unable to support their support, so to speak: [youtubevid id="mKKKgua7wQk&feature=player_embedde"] In order to ease up the [...]
A friend recently sent around a New York Times op-ed by David Brooks entitled “Cellphones, Texts, and Lovers,” where the author basically argues that young people today are hindered by technological advancements (such as texting) when forming lasting, meaningful relationships. Some of what Mr. Brooks has to say rings true, such as that our cellphone technology has facilitated facile sex. But his overarching argument is, well, bullshit.
As a twentysomething grad student, by necessity I’ve become pretty good at sharing. I share my apartment, my parking spot, and rides about town (that is, when I’m not sharing a bus with the fine citizens of Los Angeles). My life sucks a lot less than it otherwise would, given that my stipend puts me [...]
